The cultural clubs of Masco joined together to host a cultural potluck for all members to show pride in their cultural foods and explore others.
This event has been run by the Appreciating Cultures and Ethnicities (ACE) Club for the past few years and each year proves to be even bigger and better than the previous year. The clubs included were Portuguese Club, Spanish Club, Chinese Club, French Club, Global Arts and Cultures, and South Asian Student Association. All together, students were able to enjoy food from 18 different cultures in the form of snacks, main dishes, desserts, and beverages.

Besides the excitement surrounding the food, students were also enthusiastic about the global trivia game. There was chanting of team names, yells of frustrations, bickering trying to agree on an answer and more, all of course in good nature. Though the students varied in grades and club memberships, no one can help but bond with their team members after such friendly competition.
Due to the great success with their potluck last year, ACE decided to expand even more, inviting all of the newer cultural clubs. There were over 35 participants last year, over two times the size from one of the clubs first potlucks in 2022.
“It’s definitely one of our biggest events, and I think everyone agrees it is one of the best! I even had some people tell me that we should do it more than once a year,” said ACE Club President Joyce Messak.

ACE Club would be satisfied with any number of students showing up, but the pride felt is something they can’t ignore. Students were also proud to share parts of their culture with their peers, as many do not often get the chance to do that. It allowed students to learn more about each other and form new friendships.
“Being able to share foods from our cultures allowed me to talk and interact with people that I hadn’t done so with before,” said ACE Club executive board member, senior Isabella DeOliveira.
Holding events such as this one have proven to be incredibly important and beneficial for our school community, especially when other global dinners and events haven’t run in the past few years.
“The potluck is the only event Masco holds that celebrates the beautiful and rich diversity of the students in the school,” said ACE Club advisor Ellen Sheehy.
Each year the potluck becomes bigger and more lively. Community members can keep up with all ACE clubs related events through their instagram @masco.ace.club as they continue to build connections and show off all your favorite foods from your culture.
