Masco's starting attacks from left to right: Colten Russo, Colin Drsicoll, and Anthony Giacchino
The Chieftains lit up the scoreboard on the Panthers in their home opener, winning 15-10 yesterday.
The combination of junior attack Colten Russo and senior attack Anthony Giacchino couldn’t be stopped. Russo sniped six goals and included two assists, while Giacchino followed that up with five of his own and two assists as well. Masco’s senior captain and midfielder, John Miga, also put in two in the net, and sophomore attack Colin Driscoll and midfielder Myles Bernier picked up their first goal of the season. It is evident that Masco’s attacks and midfielders will be dominant on offense and produce tons of points throughout this 2025 season.
The defense also played well with senior captain Mike McNamee being the anchor. Junior first-year player Nino Stefanelli played great in this contest, delivering some big hits. Junior varsity returners Alex Cantalupo and Connor Michell weren’t letting Beverly get anything easy on offense. The addition of defensive midfielder Jack Fabiano this year will contribute to Masco contending NEC title.
Junior defensemen Alex Russo and Mason Harris maximized their time on the field and will be huge depth pieces down the road for Masco, with sophomore Jack Engel as well.
The man in the net was junior returning goalie Jack Wheadon, who had 18 saves and helped secure win number one.
Winning by five goals in game one is a fantastic sign for this Masco team, who lost some valuable seniors. Putting up 15 goals takes some talent, and Masco may just be the team that can come away with the division title this season. They now look onto Lexington at home, tomorrow at three o’clock.
