Masco Best Buddies Club hosted an exciting arts and crafts event that brought students together to get creative and make new memories.
During the event, buddies and mentors worked together to paint rocks with colorful designs, decorate cookies with frosting and sprinkles, and show off their artistic sides. The room was filled with creativity as everyone worked together. The club connects students with disabilities with mentors as they build friendships and community together.
“I liked coloring with some of the buddies because it was a good way to connect with them, and a soothing activity for everybody,” said junior Sam Richardson.
Richardson spent most of his time in the coloring area creating fun spring drawings while chatting with his buddy. This relaxing station made it very easy for students to bond with each other and enjoy a stress-free moment.
“I had a great time at my first Best Buddies event, met some cool people, and ate a lot of cookies,” said junior Daniel Karas. “I joined the Best Buddies club because I heard some great things about it from my friends and felt as if I was missing out on all the fun.”
Karas is a new recruit to the club and used this event to meet some of the Best Buddies members and introduce himself to everyone else. Although it was his first event, he was able to jump right in, make new friends, and feel like part of the community.
This event ran very smoothly because several people worked together to make it a fun night for everyone.
“I give all the credit to my officers, who planned out this event. It takes a lot of dedication to plan for any event for any club, and I couldn’t be more proud of the six of them,” said advisor Kevin Carens. “It was a great turnout. The Buddies have created a sense of community and togetherness. There are a lot of kind-hearted individuals who show what it means to be a part of Best Buddies.”
Best Buddies creates a community that values inclusion, friendship, and fun. This was displayed visually with a newly created banner full of members’ handprints, which is now hanging on the back wall of the cafeteria.
The arts and crafts night was just one example of how the club continues to build strong bonds between students of all backgrounds and abilities. Their next event is the annual Talent Show, traditionally their most popular event.
“We have a lot of creative Buddies who are excited to perform and showcase what they are proud of. Whether it be playing drums, singing in their band, or doing stand-up comedy, I can’t wait to see what happens,” said Carens.
It’s clear that Masco Best Buddies will continue to bring students together through fun events, friendship, and creativity.
