The Minnesota Timberwolves look ready to win it all this year. Led by rising star Anthony Edwards, the team has been consistent, tough, and exciting to watch all season. Edwards has taken a big leap this year, averaging over 27 points per game and stepping up in big moments. He had a 53 point game this season and even dropped 40 or more in three straight games. He’s done things no other Timberwolves player has done before. He’s not just scoring, either. He’s improved on defense and become more of a leader on and off the court.
Coach Chris Finch deserves a lot of credit, too. He reached his 200th win this season, which puts him second in franchise history. More importantly, he’s helped this team play smart, unselfish basketball. He’s made changes that allow guys like Jaden McDaniels to get more involved, while also keeping Donte Divencenzo, Julius Randle, and Edwards working together effectively. Everyone knows their role and plays hard every night.
The Timberwolves have also been one of the best defensive teams in the league, thanks in large part to Rudy Gobert. The big man won his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award last season, tying the all-time record. He controls the paint, blocks shots, and makes opponents think twice about driving to the basket. His presence changes games. In the playoffs, the Wolves have kept their momentum. They just beat the Lakers in the first round series, by a lot. In game 4, Anthony Edwards had 43 points, including clutch free throws to seal the win. Jaden McDaniels has been a huge help to the Wolves this series.
Karl-Anthony Towns and Julius Randle have been important starters this season. Towns scores from both inside and outside, while Randle plays with strength and energy. They’ve helped make the Timberwolves starting lineup strong and are a big reason the team has stayed near the top of the Western Conference.
This team is deeper, tougher, and more focused than past Timberwolves squads. With Anthony Edwards leading the way, and a strong group around him, Minnesota has a real shot to win the NBA Championship this season.
