Music is one of the few things that makes everything else make sense. Whether it’s blasting something with the windows down or throwing on headphones during a quiet night, the right artist can change your whole mindset. These four artists aren’t mainstream (yet), but they’ve stuck with me for a reason. If you’re looking to switch up your rotation, here’s where I’d start.
Caamp
There’s something about Caamp’s music that feels like sitting by a campfire at midnight. It’s raw, emotional, and completely its own thing. The lead singer’s voice is so unique, it almost sounds like it shouldn’t work, but it hits perfectly. “Drive” is one of those songs that makes time stop. I’m actually seeing them live soon, and I already know it’s going to be unforgettable. If you’re into heartfelt music with a folky vibe, Caamp’s your band.
Mt Joy
Mt Joy feels like the soundtrack to a really good coming of age movie. Their songs blend lyrics with perfectly layered instruments, and the lead singer’s voice ties it all together. “Jenny Jenkins” has this energy that pulls you in from the first note. They somehow manage to make songs that feel deeply personal but still, they’re writing about your life, even if they’ve never met you.
Nino Paid
Switching it up, Nino Paid is a rapper I found who’s seriously on the come up. His flow is smooth, his beats hit hard, and “Relapse” is one of those songs that stays stuck in your head for days, in a good way. He’s not mainstream yet, but I feel like it’s only a matter of time. There’s something cool about following an artist before they blow up, and Nino’s one to watch.
Dr Dog
No one really talks about Dr. Dog, which honestly makes no sense. The first time I heard “Shadow People,” I was completely thrown off in the best way. His voice isn’t what you’d expect. That’s what makes it so cool. It’s gritty, and sort of gives me chills. Their sound feels like a mix of old-school rock and something totally new, which makes them hard to compare and easy to love.
Houndmouth
Lately, I’ve been listening to Houndmouth nonstop. Their song “Sedona” is what got me hooked, but the more I listen, the more I realize how inspiring their sound really is. There’s something with the way they sing. They tell a story I feel like I’d need to hear. The vocals are rich, the lyrics hit, and I love their vibe. They deserve more recognition.
