The National Art Honor Society chapter is getting back up and running, planning its annual projects for this school year.
The club does many community service-based projects, like a Zumi’s art show every spring, face painting at holiday festivals, making valentines for veterans, and so much more.

“It helps us get involved with the community,” said club advisor Erin Evans.
Along with that, there are many school-based projects like helping design the sets for the drama team, making murals for the Media and Communications class, and doing field trips with the photo club.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to collaborate with other school groups,” said Evans. “That kind of gives us ideas for what we can do this year for our big projects.”
Now every year the club does one big project for the community, and this year they are thinking about adding pieces of artwork in the courtyard. It’s a good space that is rarely used, said Evans, making it a perfect space for some “sculptural element”. The club is also thinking of painting a mural on Country Farms in Topsfield, but nothing is set yet.
Evans started this club years ago, trying to make a difference in the art community at Masco.
“I just felt like Masco needed another art type club, and for us, being part of the National Art Honors Society kind of elevates it,” said Evans.
Club members are given a wide range of opportunities far beyond the walls of Masco.
“We can be a part of the national organization. Kids have more opportunities for scholarships and doing different things nationally,” said Evans.
Senior President Kalen Wright joined the club a few years ago and has been a part of it since.
“I definitely wanted more of an art experience throughout school, not just the art classes… [but] something that I could carry with me,” said Wright.
The aspects of the club go beyond just the art of it.
“I also just really enjoyed the environment in the club,” said Wright. “People were all friends and talking”.

There are certain art-related community service requirements each year, and it’s important to be an active member of the club, said Wright.
The club is always looking for members, and those who are eligible will get an email from Evans with information and the application.
It seems the club is a growing program and an active part of the community that has much in store for the future.
