2025 Field Hockey Team
Field Hockey captains share their connections with the team, on and off the field, making every player feel included and connected, driving them to their wins.
As senior captains, Savannah and Emma both know that leadership is more than giving directions. It’s about confidence, communication, and making sure every teammate feels included.
“Being there for everyone as a team is important because it lifts people up instead of bringing them down,” said senior Savannah Stevens.
That support shows up not only during practices and games, but also in the little traditions the players share. From pasta parties to college hockey games, the team has built a connection that makes them more than just teammates.
“We always play confident, never cocky, and we work really well together on and off the field,” said senior Emma Campagna.
The bond has carried them through a series of challenges. These past few seasons brought their fair share of injuries, including torn ACLs and nagging ankle issues that forced key players to the sidelines. Instead of letting those setbacks define them as players, the team treated them as opportunities to grow tougher and stronger.
“Honestly, just getting healthy was hard, but we’re all good now, and we’re all playing,” said Campagna.
One of their toughest tests came in a tie against Gloucester midway through the season. It was a frustrating result, but it also lit a spark. In their very next matchups, they respond by stacking up wins, and the hope now is that their streak keeps rolling.
Moments like those highlight what sets Masco apart: their chemistry. The players trust each other, communicate constantly, and move the ball with sharp, crisp passing.
“When we want something, we always get it,” said Campagna. “Our passes were just so crisp”.
Head coach Vanessa McGuire credits much of that trust and resilience to the team leaders. “I would say my captains are great leaders on the team, I have Savannah Stevens and Emma Campagna,” said McGuire. “They kind of help the team in all different ways.”
Each captain brought something different when they joined the team.
“For Savannah, she is a very composed leader. While she’s playing our defense, she’s really awesome, just making sure everything, despite how the ball might come down, that we don’t stress with what might be happening on the field,” said McGuire. “Emma recently tore her ACL, so she’s kinda been out of play for a while, but she’s still being a leader. She’s heading up the teacher appreciation game 9-18-2025, so that’s really awesome to see, and see how she has the girls locked in with their heads in the game.”
That balance of steady composure and relentless energy has carried Masco through tough stretches. And according to their coach, it’s not just leadership that sets them apart; it’s their overall field hockey IQ. “We have a really high field Hockey IQ,” said McGuire. “They’ve been together in the field hockey world and grown together, so they know how each other works and how the field works and how it plays out.”
Through every injury, every challenge, and every high-stakes game, the team’s connection has remained unshakeable. Whether it’s a pregame pep talk, a post-practice dinner, or a simple word of encouragement on the field, the captains and their teammates continue to prove that teamwork is their greatest strength. It’s that teamwork, more than anything else, that drives Masco to victory.
