This 25-26 season for Masconomet Cheerleading is the largest program to date, with a total of 37 athletes. The team is led by eleven veteran seniors, represented by four captains: Anna Gustafson, Ava Whitman, Caroline Clemens, and Olivia Borghesi. The senior class is close with a strong bond, and all step up to provide leadership to the large Varsity team.
“Eleven seniors on the team can at first sound very intimidating, but I have been so lucky to have all seniors as a united front leading this team to what we feel is our most exciting season yet. There are certainly challenges to having so many seniors, however the biggest one is how to “replace” such a large dynamic class next season,” said Coach Tracy Zimirowski.
The underclassmen have many role models on the team who can provide support and advice.
“We are all together every day, so we all have a ton of trust in each other and we always support each other,” said Gustafson.
There is an exciting new dynamic this year compared to previous seasons with the addition of senior Landen Boutilier, a gifted male athlete, to the team. Instead of competing in an all-girl Division 2 conference, the team is now part of one that is co-ed and includes D1 and larger D2 schools.
The team has a blended season of competitions as well as their fundamental goal of cheering on the Masconomet Football team to victory on Friday Night Lights.
“I feel super excited for the comps we have coming up, and we are all working hard at practice. There’s already so much energy at games,” said Gustafson.
This aligns and builds on the well-established positive program culture developed by third-year coach Zimirowski.
“I feel really prepared for upcoming competitions because of the way my coaches train us. We work hard every day at every single practice, and if we keep working the way we are now, it will only set us up for success,” added Clemens.
Competitions never interfere with games – the competition season begins on October 19, and the team loves to see the student body in attendance supporting the program.
