The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have quite possibly just found the next superstar in Emeka Egbuka. Less than halfway through the 2025 season and this dude already looks like a star.
He’s not just having a good rookie year, he’s having one of those rookie years: the kind you get to relax and reflect on later and realize you witnessed a breakout happen live. Right now Egbuka has 25 receptions for 445 yards and 5 touchdowns. That’s fifth on yardage in the league by any receiver, not a rookie. He’s catching the ball nearly 18 yards per reception as well, which is just insane. Last week he had 163 yards and a touchdown against Seattle. It appears every single week he’s getting better and better.
If he keeps going, he’s at around 95 catches, 1,600 yards, and around 18 touchdowns. Those numbers would put him right in line with Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and even Randy Moss when he was a rookie. And from a fantasy football standpoint, he’s projected around 290 PPR points. That’s a top 3 wide receiver – absurd for a rookie.
The biggest thing holding it back may be Baker Mayfield. Chemistry between those two is already insane. Baker has full confidence in him every big play. You can see it when it’s third and long or in the red zone, he just focuses on Egbuka and lets it go. It works too. Their chemistry is starting to look like one of the best QB WR duos in the league.
Looking around at his group of rookies, no one is anywhere close to where he currently stands. Tet McMillan, Travis Hunter, Matthew Golden, and Luther Burden are all nice players, but Egbuka’s playing like a veteran as of now. He’s smooth on routes, has incredible hands, and can get open any time.
If he’s playing at this level, it’s not just about winning Offensive Rookie of the Year anymore. We’re watching one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time, plain and simple. And for fantasy football players, you already know this guy can win your league. This kid is special and it looks like he is just getting started.
