Masco Baseball is headed to two-seed Plymouth North High School tomorrow as a big underdog, after already upsetting 18-seed Whitman-Hanson High School on Saturday.
With senior NEC [Northeast Conference] and All-Conference pitcher Paul Donnelly on the bump, he and the defense limited a strong Panthers’ batting group to only four runs. Donnelly pitched beautifully, throwing 5.2 innings with six strikeouts and zero earned runs. Then, to close the game, senior pitcher Gabe Fales got the save for the Chieftains.
The Chieftains had a few guys with hot bats and at the top of that list was senior Ryan Corcoran, who went two of three with a walk from the plate and drove in two runs [RBI] on a nice rip into the outfield.
NEC all-conference sophomore first baseman Drew Gustafson also had a fantastic day from the plate, going two for three with a run batted in and even scoring two runs of his own. Donnelly was really thriving on both ends as he also batted in two runs of his own.
The Chieftains just won as the underdog, and who’s to say this squad can’t get it done again? They’ve been fantastic all season with stout pitching and solid hitting, winning the NEC and hopefully upsetting Plymouth North High School tomorrow at four.
