Jack Fabiano is a star junior running back currently playing for the Chieftains’ football team. Fabiano has been their best player all season and currently leads the North Shore in carries, yards, and total points (all possible categories for a running back), via Salem News.
He leads the charge for the Chieftains, who’ve strung together an awesome season, going 6-2 to close the regular season and awaiting their playoff matchup. Currently, Masco is impressively ranked the 7th team in Division Three, though that may change slightly soon.
“Heading into the playoffs, we are confident in our abilities to be successful because of all the work we have put in throughout the season,” said Fabiano. “However, after our last game, we must stay humble while realizing that there will not be a game that we can take lightly. As long as we keep doing what we do, I do not doubt we will succeed in the playoffs.”
This Masco team was 2-8 last season, and the change has just been monumental. Fabiano has shown great leadership on and off the field, always putting a smile on his teammates’ and coaches’ faces.
“Even after a rough season last year, we have always known that we have had the talent to be successful but we just needed to execute,” said Fabiano. “This year we have been working harder than ever since the winter and it is clearly paying off as we have had a pretty successful season so far. The new program has provided extra motivation and we are all eager to put ourselves in the position to be as successful as possible.”
Fabiano has been an impact player for the Chieftains his past two seasons and has been particularly dominant this season on offense.
“My favorite moment has to be when we upset Billerica this year, beating them 21-19. We fought that whole game and ended up forcing a game-winning fumble at the end to secure the win,” he said. “That specifically, is what makes this team special in my opinion. The fight that we put up every single game even if we are going in as the underdogs, along with the physicality that we all play with.”
Fabiano has rushed for a total of 1,068 yards and an absurd 16 touchdowns, earning him multiple “Boston Globe Star of the Week” awards, and was recently honored with being the “Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Month,” which is only given to two athletes a month. Fabiano was named Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Conference as a sophomore and will certainly get that nod once again this season, but this year contends for the NEC’s most valuable player.
Fabiano’s best game came against Peabody this season when he rushed 18 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Then on a trick play, Fabiano threw a touchdown of his own adding to his monster game.
Fabiano has expressed interest in playing football at the next level and that is an easily attainable goal as he is a coach’s dream.
“I am definitely interested in playing football at the collegiate level, which I will consider when searching for a school to attend. However, I am going to make sure to choose the right academic school for me and I would love to play football as well if possible,” he said.
With playoffs now coming up, Masco will look to their freight train of a running back to lead them to victories.
