Masco’s 8th Grade Parent Night exhibited the expansive variety of clubs and activities available for students to grow and connect with others.
The diversity of extracurriculars ensures that every student can find a place where they feel a sense of belonging and purpose. The parents’ night served not only to share this array of opportunities with prospective families but also to highlight the supportive community that makes Masco a place of growth and accomplishment.
The following insights come from a selection of Masco’s clubs and activities, but they represent only a fraction of the possibilities students can participate in.
WBMT
What is WBMT about?
“The radio station is about radio, it’s about music and I guess you could say it’s like talk shows too. It’s super unique– not many high schools have a radio station show.” – Maya Schildkraut

“We’re cool, and that’s why you should join. We’re cooler than everybody else and we do a Sweet Caroline karaoke every Thursday.” – Megan Brady

Masco Girls Tennis
What is MGT and why should people join?
“Our mission is to build leadership skills, and self-confidence, and be a part of a talented young team filled with confident women. That’s right, lifelong tennis abilities that you will be able to gain, and we hope that you look back on all these memories and be able to think, wow, I was a part of Masco Girls Tennis.” – Teagan Skulley

Masco Buddies
What is Masco Buddies about?
“Masco Buddies is an inclusive club for kids with disabilities because they don’t get to interact as much with other kids during classes.” – Madeleine Penafiel
Why should people join it?
“We have inside-of-school events and outside-of-school events, so everyone feels included. You should join!” – Ruby DeMayo
What is happening in Masco Buddies currently?
“We’re having “friends-giving” on Tuesday the 26th after school, and we have a combined event with a Masco DECA group on Sunday.” – Olivia Lee
Photo Club
Why should people join?
“I think people should join because it’s very fun and you meet a lot of people– there’s a strong community within the club members. And we have a lot of fun taking pictures and experimenting with new projects.” – Kalen Wright
What is happening in Photo Club currently?
“Currently, we are learning how to take film photography and we’ll go around Masco at our next meeting and take pictures of the different textures of Masco.” – Landen Boutilier
GSA
What is GSA about and why should people join it?
“GSA is all about inclusion, we want it to be an open environment and a very welcoming place for students, either queer or not, just to talk and have a safe place to be themselves. You should join it because it’s really fun, we have a lot of fun meetings planned out. We’ve done a lot of art stuff– we’ve made jewelry and fingerpainted– and it’s just it’s really fun to be there.” – Piper Testa
Global Arts Club
What is Global Arts Club about and why should people join it?
“This is Global Arts Club, and it’s basically about exploring different cultures, so every month we’ll research different topics. This one is about Native Americans because of Native American Heritage Month, and then we create a slideshow with different topics like food, religion, the arts, and literature. Each person can pick a topic and research all about it and about that country. And if you like food, we eat we eat a lot of food, so you should join it because of all the food.” – Belle DiCarlo
Model UN
What is Model UN about and why should people join it?
“Model UN is all about the [United Nations] and diplomacy. You should join because you get to go on overnight conferences and have many Model UNs at Masco with lots of good food.” – Charlotte Guido
What is happening in Model UN currently?
“We’re getting really hype for Saint Johns Prep MUN coming up in December, so that’s really awesome.” – Charlotte Guido
What should people expect to gain from participating in Model UN?
“You should expect to gain better people skills and better public speaking skills because Model UN allows you to think on the fly.” – Charlotte Guido
Global Diploma
What is the Global Diploma and why should people pursue it?
“[The Global Diploma] is a graduation bonus, I’ll say. People should do the global diploma if they’re passionate about language, culture, and overall social studies. And even if that’s not you, there are different requirements to get the global diploma, including classes like band, economics, AP stats, algebra, and other business courses. It’s not just social studies courses, which is always nice. It’s a little resume booster, and it honestly gets you to do things that maybe you wouldn’t have normally done. It’s a new cultural learning experience, which is good in a world that’s becoming smaller and smaller with globalization. If you’re someone who’s curious about culture, it’s definitely a good thing to do.” – Anjo Kordis
NAHS
What is NAHS about and why should people join it?
“It’s art, but you also do service hours, and you get to do projects together and it’s really fun. There’s an art show at Zumi’s, and you can get coffee while your art is on display. You meet a lot of cool people, and do a lot of fun designs– overall it’s fun to meet people.” – Kylee Wheeler
Global Initiative Volunteers
Why should people join GIV?

Computer Science
What is happening in computer science currently?
“We are learning how to make apps of our choosing and share our projects, and that’s really cool.” – Neva Partal

“My favorite memory is probably building apps, being really creative and coming up with funny ideas.” – Will Allen
Spanish Club
What is Spanish Club about?
“It’s a very social club with lots of food, people, crafts, and things that bring us all together so we can all learn about Hispanic culture.” – Anjo Kordis
What is your favorite part of your involvement with Spanish Club?
“All the great people in Spanish club, it’s really made me think, it’s not about the destination, but it’s also not about the journey. It’s about the company and the people.” – Bryn Bucher
“We do lots of fun little things, we do stuff for Dia de las Muertos, we do music, dance, food, movies, holidays, language, current events, future speakers, community service, and our big, big thing, the Pulsera project.” – Anjo Kordis
What is happening in Spanish Club currently?
“The Pulsera Project is a project where we sell these beautiful handmade bracelets, and then we send all the money we fundraised back to artists in Nicaragua and Guatemala that make these bracelets.” – Bryn Bucher
“Not only does it give them a job with some type of job stability, it gives their art form a place to be appreciated in a country that where maybe they wouldn’t be able to continue this passion. Also, all the money goes back to them and it goes back into their country and infrastructure and education and other communities or social programs.” – Anjo Kordis
Science Team
What is Science Team about and why should people join?
“Science Team is interesting because we get to explore various topics like chemistry, physics, and structural engineering.” – Rudy Chilel
“We foster creativity, encourage everybody to reach out and do what they enjoy, and also we build teamwork and leadership while uniting the community. For example, Ishan, one of our freshmen, was in charge of our group two weeks ago and led the team.” – Thomas Buckley

What is happening in Science Team currently?
“Currently, we are having three events. One of them being the Leaning Tower of Piza, where we had to reconstruct the Leaning Tower of Piza, but out of popsicle sticks, and it has to hold up 10 pounds.” – Rudy Chilel
“Another event would be doing nuclear chemistry, where we end up taking a test on beta decay, alpha decay, neutrinos, antineutrinos, all that complicated stuff.” – Thomas Buckley
“And we’re doing an ‘arachnids of Massachusetts [event],’ where we’re identifying interesting species of arachnids that are both native and nonnative.” – Elenora Casto

Student Council
What is Student Council and why should people join it?
“Student council is a really important club here at Masco, it gives students an opportunity to be put in leadership positions and help improve the school.” – Zade Hijleh
What is happening in Student Council currently?
“We organized the upcoming Pep Rally, we love school spirit. We also do stuff for senior citizens, the luncheon is happening in December. I run a blood drive with the student council, on March 12th, save the date, and donate blood. And we also do stuff for Memorial Day, that’s really important too. And we love school spirit, we do a lot of school spirit, all the spirit weeks, that’s us!” – Zade Hijleh

Why should people join Masco Theater?
“People should join because there’s a place for everyone and it’s so fun. While it can be stressful sometimes, we get through it as a family and we do really cool stuff.” – Hailey Aitchison

What is your favorite memory from your involvement with Theater?
“My favorite memory was singing on the bus ride on the way to state finals in Boston, and when we were all singing really nice songs.” – Hailey Aitchison
“My favorite memory was probably during a rehearsal, instead of actually doing the rehearsal, we all went to McDonald’s and we all got shamrock shakes, it was awesome.” – Braydan Hirshon
Peer Leading
What is Peer Leading all about?
“As Peer Leaders, we aim to assist freshmen in their transition from middle to high school. Every freshman is assigned two to three Peer Leaders who are usually upperclassmen, and these people not only help them transition from middle school to high school, but also help them develop the traits that they need in high school and beyond. In addition, as Peer Leaders, we are responsible for the days of giving and freshman walk, where we give back to our community while garnering Masco traditions.” – Sardar Rahman

What is happening in Peer Leading currently?
“Our club is currently working on organizing the Days of Giving, which is our charity event that will give back to the community.” – Giuliana Nazzaro
