The Spanish Club hosted a meeting full of fun and tasty treats for its members. Bringing churros and hot chocolate, senior treasurer Anjo Kordis created a mini kitchen in the classroom in preparation.
However, after cooking the first batch of churros, the realization was made that there was no sugar or cinnamon to put on them. Kordis, who had bought the hot chocolate and churros, was the one to have forgotten the seasoning.
“This is detrimental right now,” said Kordis, “not in the long term, but right now. I’m really sad about this. I also forgot an oven mitt.”
Upon hearing about the error and the impact it had on the celebration, Spanish teacher and club advisor Holly Grose left to go find a container of sugar she knew was in the building.
“I knew Senora Grose was going to fix it,” said club president Kaden Mason. “Number one club advisor.”
Kordis agreed with Mason’s sentiment.
“Señora Grose to the rescue,” said Kordis.
After heroically returning with sugar for the churros, Grose expressed that the meeting was meant to be a fun cultural experience.
The meeting itself had a strong number of students come and enjoy the drinks and snacks as well, with around ten to fifteen people at or stopping by the meeting.
“It’s a great thing to do in the new year. Feliz año nuevo,” said Grose.
For the meeting, Kordis wanted to do something fun for the club members and make it an entertaining meeting.
“That’s what I wanted to do,” said Kordis. “I just wanted everyone to eat and have fun. I’m literally abuelita.”
A sophomore who had attended the meeting as his first expressed that he enjoyed it as well as the people who are a part of the club.
“Never been [to a Spanish club], it’s my first time here,” said the sophomore. “It’s a great club with great people.”
Mason himself finds a lot of enjoyment in the Spanish club and hopes to encourage more students to attend meetings.
“Join Spanish Club, it’s super fun,” said Mason.
Despite the brief challenges, the Spanish Club had a fun meeting together and enjoyed cups of warm hot chocolate and churros made in their own classroom. The Spanish Club is always looking for and welcoming new members, and you can find them on Instagram at masco.spanishclub.
