On Saturday morning, the Chieftains fought a hard battle, but for the second time this season they were defeated in a non-conference game at McGrath Stadium against powerhouse Bishop Feehan.
Both teams proved their mettle throughout most of the game, refusing to allow the other to find the back of the net. Juniors Ada Paglierani, Sadie Morris, and Ava Wexler, as well as freshman Maddie Orciuch, played excellently on defense. Masco had some dangerous opportunities in the opposing end throughout the half.
Throughout the beginning of the second half, the stalemate would be maintained. However, all would change as Feehan’s center forward would find herself scoring with 28 minutes left on the clock.
The Chieftains would continue to battle for the rest of the game, hoping to put one in against the Shamrocks. However, once a team has momentum, it’s either score or be scored on, and Bishop Feehan chose the former.
With three minutes left in regulation, junior goalie Evy Mills would find herself on a breakaway with the opposing center forward, who would put away the ball to secure her team the win.
Mills would face a good amount of action over the course of the entire game, making a whopping seven saves to keep her team in the game.
Also noteworthy is Masco’s strong midfield consisting of senior Captain Cate Shaffer and juniors Sophie Nelson and Maggie Blosser.
The Chieftains have their senior night against Gloucester on Friday at six o’clock.
