WBMT is hitting the ground running this year with all new equipment, software, executives, students, and more.
The radio station has been steadily improving since COVID, in membership, equipment, and events, and this year marks another great milestone.
“We replaced our soundboard, which was from the early 2000s, with a new audio mixer,” said WBMT advisor Matthew Chadwick. “We also got a new turntable, so we can now play records. We also repaired our CD player, so we can play CDs as well now.”
WBMT has always aimed to be about more than just the radio. Through hosting parties, competitions, and other events, they work to bring the Masco community together. They also want to uplift local up-and-coming artists.
“WBMT hosts the annual Battle of the Bands, which takes place in the spring,” said senior station manager London Thompson. “This is where you can get your band and play to compete for a prize! We have varying prizes each year, last year being free professional recording time in a studio.”
The Battle of the Bands is hosted every year by WBMT and is a great opportunity for student bands in the Tri-Town and surrounding areas to compete for glory and a prize.
“We’re looking to partner again with Harmony House to offer studio recording time as a prize for first place,” said Chadwick.

One goal of the radio every year is to spread the word about the club. Many students are unaware of what WBMT really does and how it operates.
“I’d really like to interview more students here at Masco,” said sophomore communications director Vivienne Golovchenko, “not just to gain more listeners, but also to help the people who go to this school understand that it’s very rare for a school to own a radio station and we’re very lucky to have WBMT.”
WBMT remains active in events that many wouldn’t expect but that make sense. For example, they DJ’ed this year’s Homecoming dance. And they also host their own events like the recent Halloween Karaoke Night, the annual Battle of the Bands, and last year they hosted a Boiler Room DJ Set. The team is always looking for fun new ways to bring some fun to Masco.
While they are having some trouble getting their page updated on the Masconomet website, soon enough, it will be the place to find all information about who runs each part of the radio, what song is playing currently, and how to request songs for the radio.
Every day, there is something different about WBMT. The shift schedule means that a different group of people will be on each day of the week, playing different genres and types of music.
