It has been five years since Tom Brady left the Patriots, and the team already has a top quarterback in the NFL. In his second season, Drake Maye has shown that he is an MVP-caliber player.
Being highly doubted going into this season, people thought Maye would have a sophomore slump, and he is proving them wrong. His stats have been great, and he elevates his players.
Maye has been carrying the team all season, making them a top team in the AFC. They have a record of 6-2, being first in the division, second in the conference, and fourth in the league.
Looking at his season stats, he has an average completion percentage of 75.2, 2,026 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, with a passer rating of 118.7. He is on pace for 4,035 yards and 31 touchdowns, which is insane.
When it comes to Maye, he elevates the players around him. Maye makes Kayshon Boutte a true WR 1 with some elite throws to him, including the game against the Browns. Maye and Boutte have a connection that makes them an elite quarterback/wide receiver duo.
Every week, Maye has to improvise at least one play. On his stats, he has 3 rushing touchdowns, which not many quarterbacks do. In week 3 against the Bills, he improvised on a play by going to the right out of the pocket and completing a pass to Stefon Diggs. If one compares him to any active NFL quarterbacks, it would have to be Josh Allen’s throwing/ rushing and Patrick Mahomes’ improvising.
In his two most recent games, he had a 91.2 completion percentage against the Titans, taking over Tom Brady’s record for completion percentage in a game. In his most recent game against the Browns, Maye went 8 for 8 in the second half.
Maye is fifth in the league in power rankings among Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Dak Prescott. That is insane for a second-year quarterback being ranked in the top 5.
That’s a great group of quarterbacks to be around, given the fact that Mahomes and Allen have been the two best quarterbacks in the league for years, and Mayfield has been great for the past couple of seasons in Tampa Bay.
If he continues to play at this level, he will be in the MVP conversation for this year. Maye is a great quarterback in the league, and if he continues to have a season like this every year, he will, without a doubt, win MVP during his time in the league.
