From Halloween movies to apple picking to taking in all the fall foliage, what isn’t there to love about fall?
As the hot days of summer slowly come to an end and the scents of pumpkin spice and everything apple fill the air, you know that fall is quickly approaching.
There’s nothing better than coming home, curling up on the couch with a nice cup of hot chocolate, and turning on a Halloween movie. There are so many Halloween movies to choose from, but my personal favorite is Kenny Ortega’s 1993 Hocus Pocus. I would have to say it is my favorite Halloween movie because of the humor, along with the scary scenes in the movie. My favorite scene in the movie is the opening scene when Thackery is looking for Emily because it sets the scene for the rest of the movie.
Fall is undoubtedly the best season because of all the activities available. One of my favorites is carving pumpkins because it’s nostalgic to me because I’ve done it ever since I was a kid, even though I’m not very good at it. I love carving the faces on them because you can make them look like anything you want.
I also love going apple picking. Some of my favorites are Russel Orchards and Smolak Farm because there are always so many different varieties of apples that you can get, and I use them to make delicious recipes, like apple crisp and apple pie. One memory I have from fall is when I was younger, my grandma and I would always make apple pie together every year and eat it at Thanksgiving. That showed how close the two of us were, and it is one of my favorite memories to this day.
Fall foliage is known for being the best in New England out of the whole country. People come here from all areas of the country just to see the leaves change color. According to Stephanie Spera of history.com, “New England’s got that sweet spot of red and yellow and orange and brown, which I think is special.” New England foliage is so vibrant because of its various climates throughout the year. I love going on drives to New Hampshire, specifically the Kangcamangus Highway and the White Mountains with my family to admire the fall foliage because it is so unlike anything else out there.
Every fall day brings something new, from rain and snow to sun, and sometimes all in one day. Although this might not appeal to you, I find it refreshing as it allows for change. In no other season is the temperature just right, offering the chilly air but still a variety of outdoor activities to choose from.
