Another week, another surprise. This time, it’s the Indianapolis Colts out of the AFC South who currently hold an astonishing 7-1 record and look to be serious Super Bowl contenders.
One of the biggest stories of the season has been quarterback Daniel Jones. After struggling early in his career with the New York Giants, Jones has finally found a comfortable home in Indianapolis. Many doubted his abilities after years of inconsistency and turnovers, but the Colts gave him a fresh start, and he’s run away with it. Behind one of the best offensive lines and a great system around him, which benefits his strengths, Jones has strived since day one. He’s showing more confidence, making smart throws, and using his mobility to keep plays alive, something new to his game this year. His talent and leadership have helped the Colts’ offense reach new levels, and it looks like he has finally found the right place to succeed.
The Colts’ offense has been explosive all season long, averaging over 33 points per game. Running back Jonathan Taylor has returned to his “A” game and has been one of, if not the best, running backs in the NFL this season. The offensive line has done an excellent job protecting Jones and opening holes for Taylor, giving the Colts one of the best offenses in the league. Receivers have stepped up, too, being reliable targets that Jones has been able to target in key moments. Whether at home or on the road, the offense has delivered every week, making the Colts one of the toughest teams to defend around the league.
Defensively, the Colts have also shown signs of greatness with major improvement. They’ve been strong against the run and aggressive in creating turnovers. While they’ve had some struggles with giving up explosive plays, the defense has made game-changing plays when it matters most. The energy and toughness of this unit have matched the firepower of the offense, helping the team with its shocking but impressive start throughout these first eight weeks.
As the season moves forward, will the Colts continue to dominate, or will tougher competition be the kryptonite the Colts have yet to face? With Daniel Jones leading the loaded offense and Jonathan Taylor holding his ground in the backfield, no team will look forward to playing the Colts down the road. After years of ups and downs, the Colts have finally found some stability, and their fans have plenty of reasons to believe again, with hopes of bringing another Super Bowl.
