DECA students are hard at work on their projects, including the DECA 3 (full-year) students who are building their business skills while also making a direct impact in their community.
Juniors Keira Conley, Gianna Fiore, and Victoria Cerbone are building their “Wear to Care” brand, Masconoment-themed gear designed to support cancer research.
While this is a class project, their purpose goes far beyond a grade. Much of the merchandise is pink, sold during Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“We have made anything you could want from hats to sweatshirts to sweatpants. We have even extended to making warm-ups for the sports teams as a way to support all cancer research and raise money,” said Conley.
The trio chose this project because so many people are affected by cancer – whether directly or indirectly with a loved one.
“We just knew we had to do something,” said Conley.
After recognizing what they needed to do, they made their solution.
“We needed to spread awareness and do things like the posters and go to football games to attract people,” said Fiore.
The team is also learning about business aspects of the project.
“We have to up the prices to make enough money to reach our goal,” said Fiore.
The challenge is keeping prices affordable while also having a profit that allows them to donate to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
“It took us a while to figure out the prices and how we would make enough money,” said Fiore.
The girls came up with their second part of the project including pink themed goodie bags. By spreading awareness, they have raised almost $830 from staff and community members.
“The Wear to Care project has been very successful and I am very proud of the girls,” said DECA advisor Madison Marc-Aurele.
“Wear to Care” clothing will spread awareness for a greater cause while supporting Masco pride. This October, they are showcasing pink-themed gear to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month but sale will continue. To purchase, check out the link: https://masco-deca-wear-to-care-gear-shop.checkoutstores.com
