The Student Council is thrilled about the upcoming year and all the plans they have to make it the most enjoyable and engaging school year yet.
They are working very hard to make sure that all students at Masconomet feel they want to come to school and be happy here.
The Council is made up of a very large group of kids, where anybody is allowed to participate. It starts with smaller groups creating ideas and then sharing them with the whole council.
The executive board, however, makes the actual decisions on whether the ideas will be passed. This then ends up being a lot of coordination and work for the executive members of the group.
“I think all roles are vitally important because the executive board listens to the opinions of the people, but I feel like having more people gives a larger voice to the different groups of Masco that may have been left out of being a part of the executive board,” said senior Rudy Chilel. “We always make sure to take into account the opinions, the views, and suggestions given to us by our representatives.”
Chilel said that everybody’s views matter and that everybody deserves a chance to voice their thoughts.
The Student Council is involved in many of the events that are taking place here at Masco and even outside of the school every year. They have goals that they are striving for this year, and they are relying on the students of Masco to be able to help them.
Their first goal was to make sure that enough people bought tickets to the Homecoming dance. Since it was the first time the school hosted Homecoming in three years, the council was unsure of how the results would end up. They originally had a goal of at least 100 tickets being sold.
In the end, not only did Homecoming become a success, but it exceeded expectations by a long shot, recording over 300 tickets. This was a mark that was set due to the hard work of this team, and also from the engagement of the students in the school.
The Council is a lot of hard work; however, it is also a very positive and fun experience for anyone who may be interested in joining.
“My favorite thing about being the advisor is getting to know students that I would not otherwise know in a fashion that is outside of the classroom, where many of them probably feel less restricted,” said advisor James McNeilly.
McNeilly loves being able to watch this group of students use their power to make school feel enjoyable.
“It makes me wish that I had been on the student council when I was in high school,” he said.
A very important thing to know is that the Council does what they do for the better of the students around it. They enjoy what they do because it makes them feel better about the school that they attend.
Senior Neva Partal said, “I joined the student council because I am very interested in making voices heard and having fun activities around the school that people can enjoy.”
She said she has good ideas to implement and just wants to contribute as best as she can.
Now, the Student Council still has a lot of plans in store for the school. They plan to organize more dances and more events, but most importantly, to create more memories.
As the year goes on, the Student Council is looking to see more engagement and more spirit in our school, and only the people of Masco can make this happen.
