With an incredible season full of energy and teamwork, Masco Volleyball secured their spot in the playoffs with 12 wins out of 21 games in the regular season. Through teamwork, determination, and positive energy, the team showcased their talent and proved their strength on the court.
Senior Captains Jordan Draper, Cate Wettstone, and Lidia Benedetto have been strong captains for the team, leading their teammates through wins and losses. All of the captains have taken an active role in building motivation and encouraging others to keep a positive mindset.
There were many ups and downs this season, but all resulted in team-wide and personal progression that led to this success.
“The team’s journey leading up to the playoffs hasn’t been all that easy. We have had some great wins but also some disappointing losses. However, as the season progressed, we all improved and learned to work more effectively as a team,” said Wettstone.
Two of the team’s keys to success have been their strong communication and their commitment to serving. While on the court, each player calls for the ball and goes for it no matter what. They are serving their best and earning many of their points through aces.
“Effective communication and strengthening the bonds between team members have contributed significantly to our success this year,” said Wettstone.
That teamwork shows in every match, especially in the team’s consistent serving performance.
“Our key to success so far has been serving hard, when we serve well, we win games,” said Benedetto.
Preparing for the playoffs has been a matter of working hard and putting their all into practices. The team spends time targeting weaknesses and working to minimize in-game faults. Not only are they physically working hard, but also mentally. Each player takes time to maintain a positive mindset and encourage one another on and off the court.
“I’m preparing for the playoffs by taking the time to remember all the hard work we’ve put into the season and how badly we want to win a playoff game,” said Draper.
MVB navigated an exciting season, ultimately earning a spot in the playoffs. While they had hoped to finish higher in the standings, the team celebrated their achievement in qualifying for postseason play.
“Honestly, this season has been a bunch of ups and downs. I think we were expecting to be ranked as a higher seed, but I’m proud of us for making it to the playoffs,” said Draper.
Keeping all varsity players confident was a focus this season, with an emphasis on staying positive, learning from errors, and preparing for the playoffs.
“As captains, we keep our teammates motivated and focused by stressing how important the playoffs will be, but also staying positive and letting them know it’s okay to make mistakes, we just need to learn from them and improve,” said Wettstone.
The team’s challenging schedule contributed to their success. Facing some of the state’s top teams helped develop trust, respect, and a deeper understanding of the game, laying strong groundwork for the playoff run.
“We scheduled a challenging non-conference schedule, making sure our team faced some of the better teams in the state and area. Our players responded well, winning some key non-conference match-ups, increasing our overall power ranking and record,” said Coach Wettstone.
Entering the playoffs, MVB carries a strong sense of determination. This season, the team pulled off two incredible reverse sweeps, coming back from 0–2 in sets, showing that they never give up. Win or lose, Masco Volleyball will take the court focused, competitive, and ready to give their all.
