If Tetris was redesigned by my sleep paralysis demon, it would probably result in the beautiful abomination that is Falling Face Fragments by AshumArcade.
Falling Face Fragments started off as a niche Instagram series, showing the development of the game before its release on November 7, 2025. The game has a small but dedicated community, and mostly positive reviews on Steam.
The game has two core modes: arcade for an endless experience, and missions for a campaign of puzzle levels to introduce mechanics and test player skills.
In Falling Face Fragments, the main goal, similar to Tetris, is to clear the board. To do this, the player must form a face using four hyperrealistic tiles: Two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
The eyes will occasionally blink, and the mouth yawns, which is quite disturbing. Upon forming a face, you can press the “z” key to complete the face, topped off with an “eh” sound that pierces the soul.
The entire point of the game is to be unsettling, however, and that is exactly where its charm comes from. Falling Face Fragments uses hyperrealistic graphics and an empty atmosphere to effectively ensure that goosebumps remain on the player’s skin from start to finish.
The music deserves a spotlight as well, as there appears to be one track that is slowed down in menus and plays normally during levels. The instruments sound atrocious and out of tune, playing an intentionally terrible melody, but I could not think of a better soundtrack to give this game.
The puzzles in mission mode are surprisingly well thought out, though, and I was shocked at how fun the gameplay turned out to be despite the presentation. I actually had a lot of fun during my time with the game, which made the off-putting aspects strangely endearing, like a honky tonk piano.
Overall, I actually recommend this game. It’s only $1.99 on Steam and offers quality gameplay at the price of your eyes. A beautiful trainwreck, 8 out of 10.
