Masco Ski Team is finding its rhythm at the perfect time. After a strong start to their season with only a small schedule disruption due to winter storms, the team feels settled in and is continuing to improve with each race and practice.
While the competition in the league gets tougher as more teams start to build their strength, Masco has continued to rise to the challenge, and they are proud of their hard work.
“I’m happy with the team, and we have been working hard in practice,” said coach Ryan Quinn.
One of the most noticeable things about the team is their chemistry. They are always found cheering for each other, and other than parents and fans, they themselves are their biggest supporters. Adding the constant cheering at the start and finish of the races boosts intensity and helps everyone ski stronger.
“There is nothing better than seeing the team root for each other,” said Quinn.
“I think it is a very fun and happy group, and the team chemistry is unstoppable. We are always cheering each other on at the start and finish, which pumps up the intensity and helps us finish each race strong,” said captain Violet Malinowski.
Since the beginning of the season, effort and consistency have been major areas of improvement. With practices often taking place after race days, skiers face long, demanding schedules. However, the team grows mentally stronger and now pushes hard all the way through the end of practice.
“We’re skiing stronger runs more often and supporting each other a lot more as a team,” said captain Hannah Mitchell.
Practices themselves have exceeded expectations for many athletes. They are focused, productive, and still enjoyable. Along with responsibility, when setting up and taking down gates is teamwork that benefits everyone.
Despite the success, the team knows there is still work to be done. It is expected to be the same level of commitment and dedication from every team member.
“[We’re focused on] cleaning up small mistakes and staying locked in from start to finish during races,” said Mitchell.
As States approach, the team’s goals are clear. Masco is working hard to qualify enough girls to compete as a team, making the final league races especially important. Athletes and coaches agree that staying consistent, trusting their training, and keeping a strong mindset will be essential.
“I also think it’s important, especially now, to continue the positive and fun team environment we have. This could mean having more pasta parties or spending more time together off the slopes so that we really connect as a team,” said Malinowski.
With strong chemistry, growing consistency, and a determined mindset, the Masco Ski Team is positioned for a strong finish to the season. If the team continues to work hard and support one another, they will be ready to take on the challenges ahead.
