The Media Communications class will be up and running again next year, ready to bring Masco students more exciting news from around the Tri-Town.
Media Communications is a CP or Honors level course that runs for a full year. In the class there will be many fun segments that are recorded for the Morning Update, Masco’s weekly student broadcast, and articles will be written based on what is going on at Masco.
“There’s a set amount of articles that need to be done each quarter, six for honors and five for CP,” said teacher Michelle Siden. “In addition, there’s video work that will be required each week.”
Siden will be back for her 28th year of teaching the class and loves to watch her students grow.
“I like getting the chance to watch people find their passions and their talents and also their confidence. Whether or not they go into the communications field after high school, I still think this class provides students with valuable life skills, and I like being able to watch that develop,” said Siden.
This elective can be a fit for every type of student. Even if you don’t want to be on camera, you can find a good spot writing articles for their digital media website, The Masco Messenger. There is also opportunity for social media work, review writing, script writing, and more. Students get lots of experience in every field and can find their true passion very easily.
“I joined the Media Communications class because I was an incoming sophomore, and I knew I wanted to be somewhere in the media industry, but I didn’t know where, and this is where this class really helped me out,” said senior Sam Richardson. “I got great experience as an anchor, behind the camera, on a teleprompter, as well as writing, which is the other half of the class writing for the Masco Messenger.”
Richardson also does local work for the Boston Herald and The Salem News, showing that the class can create so many opportunities.
Sports coverage is a major part of the class, and many students love writing articles about their favorite sports teams, such as senior Nino Stefanelli.
“I joined the Media Communications class because I have a strong passion for sports. Whether it’s writing articles, appearing on camera, or doing work behind the scenes. This class has prepared me for the next chapter in college,” said Stefanelli.
The Media Communications class is looking for students who are willing to take risks and try out something new. Class members want to learn about the communications field and get a taste of life in media, with a chance to expand their knowledge.
