Hollywood’s biggest night of the year brought the film industry’s biggest stars together to celebrate their biggest achievements.
The 98th Academy Awards were held this past weekend at the Dolby Theater, presenting twenty-four categories, all for films released in 2025. The awards presented ranged from Best Picture to Best Music to Best Actor/Actress in a Leading Role.
The biggest award at the Academy Awards, Best Picture, went to One Battle After Another, produced by Adam Somner, Sara Murphy, and Paul Thomas Anderson. This film dominated the Academy Awards, having won Best Picture, and also winning an additional five awards, including Actor in a supporting role, Casting, directing, film editing, and writing (adapted screenplay).
Best Animated Feature film went to KPOP Demon Hunters, with nominees being Arco, Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2. KPOP Demon Hunters was released in June of 2025 and quickly swept awards season, having received two Golden Globes, gained two wins at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and made history at the grammys being the first K-Pop song to win Best Original Song.
Another significant award at this year’s show was Actor and Actress In A Leading Role. The award went to Michael B. Jordan for his role in Sinners and Jesse Buckley for her role in Hamnet. Sinners was released in April 2025 and is a horror/action film about twin brothers leaving their troubled past behind to get a fresh start. Hamnet was released in November 2025 and is a drama/history that is based on Shakespeare’s life and what inspired him to write Hamlet.
This year’s Academy Awards were one for the books as several wins made history. Sinners, for example, came into the awards with a record sixteen nominations and walked away with four Oscars. One of the awards went to Sinners’ cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who became the first ever woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
Other historical moments in this year’s Academy Awards included Cassandra Kulukundis winning the first-ever Casting Oscar for her casting in the film One Battle After Another.
I found that the 98th Academy Awards was the best one that I had seen, with Michael B. Jordan winning his first Oscar, even after all of the films he has been a part of. Something that I was drawn to was the stunning red carpet looks, especially Anne Hathaway with her black floral dress and Kate Hudson with her mint green dress covered in diamonds.
The 98th Academy Awards proved to be an unforgettable night celebrating the best films of the year, and history was made, which will be talked about for years to come.
