Masco’s various vocal ensembles, under new direction, are set to perform their repertoire in concert at the start of April.
The different branches, such as Jazz Choir, Chorale, and Concert Choir, come together for one last standard concert of the year. However, things are a little different this time, as usual director Kate Duval has become a mother and is taking care of her daughter, meaning she is unable to teach. Therefore, all vocal arts classes have been taught by long term substitute Gustavo Cruz.
“I am so proud of how my students adapted to change in the middle of a school year to still deliver amazing performances,” said Cruz.
This is the final chorus concert for Masco’s senior performers, and some are growing sentimental over their time.
“Chorus is unlike any other class because we are all trying to work together to be better as a group,” said senior Jeramiah Garcia. “I’m going to miss the class a lot, just because I was able to do the thing that I love to do, which is sing.”
Vocal arts classes at Masconomet are like a family for the students that take them. After a year of singing and bonding together, graduation is a bittersweet time. As performers come and go, the dynamic shifts. However, the familiar atmosphere remains.
“Because of all the amazing people I’ve met along the way I’ve been able to grow so much as a performer and a person and I’m so grateful for all of them,” said senior Hudson Schmieder. “It’s really sad to think that this will all be going away with my graduation, and I’m going to miss singing with all the friends I have in the classes.”
Masco’s spring choir concert takes place tonight at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.
