A variety of students collaborated to organize an International Potluck, bringing together diverse clubs. 

  The idea came from Appreciating Cultures and Ethnicities (ACE) Club advisor Ellen Sheehy.

  “The ACE Club wanted to hold an event that created unity among the several clubs in the High School that represent different cultures and ethnicities and celebrate diversity,” said Sheehy.

  The ACE Club was joined by the Global Arts Club (GAC), Portuguese Club, Spanish Club, and Chinese Club, but of course, the food was from a lot of other places too. The event featured dishes from Afghanistan, Egypt, Brazil, Japan, India, Turkey, Albania, China, Korea, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Germany, and Italy.

  Each person who contributed a dish then explained a little about the ingredients and why it is important for the culture of that place.

  Senior Sam Pomerantz brought a sweet treat to share with the group.

  “At the cultural fair I brought in the traditional Brazilian dessert called Cocada, made with condensed milk and coconut. The experience opened me up to many different cultures, and I’m happy I introduced people to a culture that is new to them.” 

  After everybody listened to the explanations of the foods and cultures, the president of one of the clubs led the group in a trivia game on the different topics of the countries.The trivia questions provided a fun but also educational way to enjoy the rest of the day. 

 “It was fun and interesting to learn about topics from other countries. The trivia was just a good experience and a really good time for me and my friends,” said junior Piper Testa. 

  Senior Davi Paiva helped with the creation of the potluck. 

  “I thought that the cultural potluck was a great way to join all of these different clubs and share some parts of our culture as well as learn about some others. Nothing unites people more than food, and it was a great experience being able to try these different foods from other countries,” said Paiva.
