After releasing their latest album this past October, Play With Earth! 0.03, Wave to Earth sold out the House of Blues playing their first show in Boston.
Wave to Earth is a band based in South Korea that creates music that mixes the indie and rock genres, the members being Daniel Kim, John Cha, and Donggyu Shin.
When buying tickets, there were 3 packages available. One was regular general admission, the second was VIP 2, which grants priority entrance and soundcheck, and VIP 1 tickets included first priority for entrance, soundcheck, merchandise, and a photo with the members.
When attending general admission concerts, it is always best to arrive early if you want to have a good view, and with so many different packages, it is important to arrive even earlier to make sure that you are in the right place.
Taking into account how many packages there were, the staff of both the venue and the artists kept everything extremely well organized.
Most of the time, it is expected to be a little behind schedule at any concert, but at Wave to Earth’s concert, being as well organized as they were allowed us to go through all of the procedures necessary smoothly and on time.
The venue itself was The House of Blues in Boston. To many people, this venue can be very hit or miss. This time, it was a very pleasant experience. Aside from how well they were organized, they also handed out free water bottles, both in line and in the venue.
As soon as VIP got in, we lined up for photos, and not long after got our photos. The band members were very nice, greeting everyone and thanking them for coming.
People were then lined up again to wait to go to the general admission area, and those who wanted to get merchandise were then allowed to go buy some.
Luckily, I was one of the first in line and was able to get everything that I wanted.
Sadly, because of how popular the band is and how they rarely come to Boston, many people bought merchandise in bulk to resell, selling out most of it before most people could get anything.
During soundcheck, the artists surprisingly did not sing, and instead just played their instruments. As someone who buys soundcheck tickets often, it was very different, but also very fun to watch.
Once we were allowed to get into the admission area, I was only one person away from the barricade. As someone who had only gotten to the venue an hour before doors opened, it was very exciting for me.
The opener for the show was Malina, or Jung Seyi. She is a smaller artist that I had very heard of, but had a captivating voice, playing jazz-inspired music.
Soon after she finished, Wave to Earth came on.
When performing, it was clear on their faces how much they enjoyed performing, both together and for the fans. Between songs, they would talk about the song’s story, or thank the crowd and ask how we were doing.
At the end of the show, they came back for an encore, and signed their picks and drumsticks, throwing them into the crowd, the drummer even coming into the crowd to personally hand his sticks to a concert goer.
Splurging for VIP is not necessary, but very nice to have if you want to ensure the best experience possible when seeing your favorite artist.
Since I got VIP, I got to meet one of my favorite bands, get free merchandise, and get a good view without needing to wait in line for the entire day like most people did.
