Let’s face it – the best movies were made in the early 2000s. This “Golden Age” of movies had many amazing films like Cheaper By The Dozen, Mean Girls, Mamma Mia, The Devil Wears Prada, The Notebook, and many more classics. The best were the action-comedies, known for their CGI innovations. Three of the best were Miss Congeniality, The Pacifier, and Mr and Mrs Smith.
Miss Congeniality, released in 2000, is about a female FBI agent (Sandra Bullock) who has to go undercover at the Miss United States pageant because of there being a terrorist threat. She is distraught at the fact that she has to act girly and go under as a contestant. It has won two Teen Choice Awards for comedy and wipeout scene of the summer. The movie was directed by Donald Petrie and is available on streaming platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Prime. Bullock is also known for popular hits like While You Were Sleeping, The Proposal, Speed, and The Blind Side. This is such a great movie from the 2000s because it is many people’s comfort movie and lets the audience feel like they are a part of the movie, watching Bullock’s transformation and adding relatability for the audience.I love this movie because of Bullock’s comedy and witty comebacks.
The Pacifier is about a Navy SEAL, Shane Wolfe, who fails to save someone from an assasination mission for Howard Plummer, and to redeem himself he is assigned a job to keep the Plummer kids safe. He is taking care of five kids, Zoe (Brittany Snow), Seth (Max Thieriot), Lulu (Morgan York), Peter (Keegan and Logan Hoover), and Baby Tyler (Bo and Luke Vink). It was released in 2005, directed by Adam Shankman, with Vin Diesel playing the part of the Navy SEAL. Diesel is mostly known for his role in Fast and Furious, playing Dominic Toretto. It won the 2006 ASCAP award for Top Box Films. The Pacifier can be streamed on Disney+, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime. This movie is very nostalgic for bits like the Peter Panda dance, and is a similar movie to Kindergarten Cop. I love this movie because of its intricate plot but it also never fails to make you laugh.
Mr and Mrs Smith, directed by Doug Liman and also released in 2005, is one of the best action packed, twist-turning movies. Jane Smith, played by Angelina Jolie, and John Smith, played by Brad Pitt, are both keeping secrets from each other – they are both assassins. They work at different companies but are both assigned the same target. Once they find out, they are assigned to kill each other, leading them to set up many attacks against each other. The film won the MTV Movie and TV award for Best Fight and a Teen Choice Award for Action Adventure/Thriller and Choice Movie Liar. The movie was also awarded a Top Box Office Films Award and three NRJ Ciné Awards. It is available on Hulu, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime. Jolie and Pitt were known for getting into a relationship after meeting on set and being together for twelve years, sharing six children until they divorced. The movie is liked by many because of its witty script and its satire throughout the characters’ twists and turns. I love this movie for its amount of action and the humorous remarks throughout the movie.
All of these movies have action-packed scenes throughout the entirety of the movie, which made them all so popular. If you are looking for adrenaline-pumping hilarity, these movies are great options.
