After a great start from senior pitcher Gabe Fales and a strong finish from senior reliever Ryan Corcoran, Masco baseball gets the win over Marblehead, 3-1.
Fales pitched the first four innings and had seven strikeouts, only giving up one earned run off of a home run to center field. Fales not only pitched a great game but also went two for three at the plate, getting Masco on the board in the first inning with a run batted in (RBI).
The biggest play of the day, and arguably the Chieftains’ season so far, was when in the bottom of the fourth inning, with sophomore first baseman Drew Gustafson on first base after a walk, freshman right fielder Davis Deluties demolished a fastball out over the right field fence, putting Masco up 3-1 and recording the first homerun of his young career and the first of Masco’s season. Deluties also recorded the first two RBIs of his career.
Then, to start the fifth, Masco brought in Corcoran to close out the last three innings and he did just that, with zero earned runs and three strikeouts.
The Chieftains’ outfielders also played a good game with some incredible catches. Deluties had a diving catch, robbing a single from Marblehead and senior Tyler Feldberg had an incredible on-the-run catch that robbed an extra-base hit from the Magicians.
Masco’s pitching continues to shut down opposing offenses and looks to stay undefeated, next taking on a Northeast Conference (NEC) rival, the Danvers Falcons.
