The Chieftains boys’ soccer team beats the Peabody Tanners in a defensive masterclass, 2-0.
The battle of two Northeast Conference standout teams didn’t disappoint, being anybody’s game through most of the first half. However, with fifteen minutes left in the first half, senior Charlie Olson swung all the momentum to Masco by burying the game’s first goal assisted by senior captain Jack Fiedler, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
After coming out of the half, Peabody was really trying to get something going on offense but couldn’t get anything past the backline of juniors John Green and Nate Mroczek, and senior captain Aidan Colleran.
Then during the second half, Fiedler put the nail in the coffin for the Tanners’ chance at victory, ripping a goal into the net assisted by junior Gabe Fantin. Olson and Fiedler have scored in both games to start the season and are players to keep an eye on for the remainder of the year.
Masco’s real player of the game must be given to junior goalie Gabriele Russo who clinched the win with an amazing shutout. Russo was a brick wall in net, making sure nothing got by him.
Masco remains undefeated and is proving to be a top dog in the Northeast Conference as they face Saugus at home next and look to get their third win of the season.
