Masco’s field hockey team stays hot, taking down Swampscott in another close one, 3-1.
The Chieftains came out very strong last game against Gloucester and it was no different against the Big Blue. They once again recorded the first three scores of the game, obtaining a 3-0 lead right before the half. It was junior Molly Regan who struck gold first for the Chieftains, getting her first varsity goal off of a nice pass from junior captain Savannah Stevens.
Senior captain Mia Juliano was once again on fire, recording the next two goals for Masco all within the final 90 seconds of the half. Her first goal was a bullet right off the stick, directly from junior Ava Gauvain’s pass. With only a second left before the half, Juliano took matters into her own hands, scoring Masco’s third goal off of a feed from senior Stephanie Reed, putting the Chieftains up comfortably into the break.
With a 3-0 lead through most of the second half, Masco’s defense was holding up phenomenally, led by the strong stick of Stevens. Masco sophomore goalie Sabrina Caferelli was spoiling Swampscott’s offense time and time again. Caferelli has been outstanding in net for the Chieftains so far this year, letting in only four goals through these first three games of the season.
The Chieftains get over 500 with the win, improving to 2-1 on the year, and look to keep the winning streak going against Saugus this Friday.
