Star Wars movies have been hit or miss since Disney bought Lucasfilm. But a place where it has really shined is in video games. This is probably due to the fact that Disney doesn’t directly control what goes on in them. But the best games could be the most unexpected.

Star Wars Battlefront II had a rocky start, annoying microtransactions, and long loading times. But even with all of its problems, it still managed to turn into a very fun game. The main story of the game is forgettable but the multiplayer modes are where the game really shines. Playing as different types of soldiers and fighting in fun battles is awesome, and when you finally build up enough points in the match, you get to become a hero, which is a recognizable character from one of the Star Wars movies. Sadly, EA, the company that made the game, cut support and stopped updating it in 2021, so it will never reach its full potential. It remains great fun to play with friends and still has an active player base to this day.
Released on November 10, 2019, Jedi: Fallen Order reinvented Star Wars games in the best way. With a fresh combat system, a likable cast of characters, and a compelling story to bring it all together, this game really shines. This game deals with trauma in such a convincing way, as a Jedi works to overcome his wounds to enable him to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga is the definition of a classic. This game combines the content of the two LEGO Star Wars games that came before it into one game where you play through the stories of the first six Star Wars movies. This game has everything. Fun gameplay, puzzles, and level design, but most importantly, this game has charm. The developers put in so much effort into the smallest details to make sure this game had a unique feel. For example, if you play as Lando Calrissian and you try to punch Princess Leia, the game makes you kiss her hand instead because that’s what Lando would do.

Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga one takes the best elements of the Complete Saga and improves on them. Now with the content of all three Star Wars trilogies and two decades’ worth of memes to use, the developers knew exactly what they were making. The combat in this game is fluid and fun, the open world makes every planet fun to explore and find all the collectibles. They also inserted many memes into these levels, especially in the prequels. From Qui-Gon Jin’s iconic “There’s always a bigger fish” line to Obi-Wan’s “Hello there,” the people making this game clearly love Star Wars.

I’ve already reviewed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at length so I’ll just summarize a few of my main points from my article. I have logged 177 hours and completed 100% of this game and I love every aspect of it. This game expands on the first one in every possible way. The combat is a huge step up with even more moves and combos. The new lightsaber stances make the combat way more personalized and fun. The story feels bigger and the stakes higher with a genuinely surprising twist. The only negative aspect was the launch because it was unfortunately plagued with terrible performance, especially on PC’s. It was unplayable for anyone not playing on a console, which led to it being review-bombed on Steam. But for those who are able to play this game, it is an incredible experience.
