Masco bettered their chances at winning the Northeast Conference (NEC) with a big divisional over the Peabody Tanners.
After a scoreless tie against Gloucester, the Chieftain offense came out hungry to score. Star senior captain Jack Fiedler booted in his 10th goal of the season, dribbling half-field into the net, putting Masco ahead 1-0.
A quick Peabody answer left the game tied early on until junior defenseman John Green netted his first career varsity goal off a Fiedler feed, heading it home from six yards out.
Peabody was solid on offense themselves, matching both of Masco’s goals right after and keeping it tied.
Junior Gabe Fantin scored a go-ahead goal with 10 minutes left in the first half after making a few men miss and sneaking it past the goalie, near the post.
After the ball went out of bounds with the first half about perished, senior captain Aidan Colleran had a long throw-in which resulted in Fiedler heading the ball right to the powerful left foot of senior Jacob Olson. Olson then struck the ball cleanly into the net on the volley to give the Chieftains a commanding 4-2 lead going into halftime.
The second-half defense was fantastic for both sides, particularly the Chieftains, anchored by junior Nate Mroczek.
Junior Gabriele Russo with another stand-out performance in net shutting out the Tanners in the second half and never letting them claw back into the game.
With this big win for Masco, they stay at the top of the NEC and will continue to push for that conference title in what should be an awesome game away against an 8-3 Beverly team October 3.
