Mia Juliano is a star senior captain currently playing for the Chieftains’ field hockey team. Juliano is the leading goal-scorer on a Masco team recently ranked 11th in Division 2 and nearing the top 25 in the state.
“My thoughts within the first half of the season boil down to our pride, hard work, and family we’ve created. This team is something special this year and we have so much fire to bring, as our record now is 9-1. The way we have been presenting ourselves on the field at games is all a reflection of the work we put in at each practice,” she said.
Being a captain, Juliano leads her team vocally and by example, always having them ready to play.
“I always remind my team not to focus on the name on the uniform we are playing and just to focus on ours and play Masco field hockey. I have no doubt that this team will achieve further success.”
Juliano has played for the field hockey program all four years and has been a big varsity contributor for her last three seasons. Masconomet field hockey has been stout over the last handful of seasons with some awesome wins for the program.
“In my four years of playing high school field hockey, by far, my favorite memory was my sophomore year season winning our playoff game against Westwood,” she said.
“We won the game to bring us into the final four. We all got food after the win and we celebrated for simply more time together and to prove we were worthy of that spot. It felt like a fever dream.”
Juliano’s best moment came on a big stage against an undefeated Beverly team earlier this year. She was able to score the first goal of the game, setting the tone for the Chieftains and leading them to victory. The significance of this game was not only that Masco now sits atop the Northeast Conference (NEC), but this was her 9th goal through 7 games, which is an incredible feat.
Now halfway through her senior season, Juliano continues to spark college attention and is definitely interested in continuing field hockey at the next level.
“I do have a big desire to play in college at the club level. I’ve realized through the years I want to put my academics before my sports while in college. However I’ve spoken with club coaches at colleges I am applying to because the love I have for the sport won’t let me stop after this season, absolutely not.”
After going on an absolute tear for this first month of the season, Juliano looks to keep it up and lead her team into a deep playoff run come early November.
