The Chieftains took care of the business against the visiting Lakers with ease, winning three sets to one this past Friday.
The Lakers came into this game as the underdog and showed immense signs of life early on, clearly being the better team in set one.
Masco then kicked it into high gear in set two after starting down 8-0 but coming back and tying this game at one a-piece.
From there on out, Masco showed their true colors and were dominant, especially in the middle up front.
Star junior middle-hitter Cate Wettstone was unbelievable in this contest, leading Masco with an absurd 23 kills, and striking fear into the Lakers’ eyes each time she jumped up. All year, Wettstone has been Masco’s top player, and coming into this game Wettstone led the North Shore in kills with 231 and was fourth in aces with 52.
Set three also came down to the wire but Masco came through in the clutch, giving them a comfortable 2-1 lead.
Senior captains Megan Brady and Jessie Bonaiuto were also exceptional for Masco in this game as Brady had eight kills and Bonaiuto contributed nine. Brady has been dominant this year as well finishing with the 5th most kills in the North Shore with 173.
In set four, Masco could tell Silver Lake was running out of gas and went in for the kill (literally). They took this one easily, 25-13, and sent Silver Lake on a long ride home.
Chieftain junior libro Lidia Benedetto controlled the back line beautifully just like she has all season. She had 14 digs this Friday night and also leads the North Shore with 295 digs.
Senior Alba Vranari contributed 13 digs of her own to go along with 12 from senior Chloe Lodewick.
Junior setter Jordan Draper had all 40 of the Chieftains’ assists and to no surprise also leads the North Shore with 613 assists and the next closest doesn’t even sniff that.
With this solid win over Silver Lake, Masco will embark on the journey to Westwood (5) on Wednesday at 6 o’clock.
